We are the curators of Pittsburgh's nightmares, the archivists of its fears, the trustees of all things that go "bump in the night" in Western Pennsylvania. Join us for a spine-tingling ghost tour of one of America's most haunted cities, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. May to early November

We are looking for mature, passionate, professional, reliable, and personable tour guides to lead tours that tell Pittsburgh’s story in unique, sophisticated ways for Haunted Pittsburgh Tours and our sister tour, Historic Pittsburgh Tours.

Both Historic Pittsburgh and Haunted Pittsburgh are outdoor walking tours that run, rain or shine, at various times during the week for 1 hour to 1½ hours during the warm weather months of the year (April through early November). Applicants must be willing to study and learn by heart the materials provided to assist them in leading the tour.

Haunted Pittsburgh’s tours take place in various locales (including downtown, on Mount Washington, and in Oakland) during the evening hours every weekend from May through early November. Note: Haunted Pittsburgh is not a “ghost hunt”-- we don’t traipse around town trying to raise the dead with little ghost machines. We tell true stories from Pittsburgh’s grisly, historic past that, as Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.com put it, are “meticulously researched, brilliantly crafted, and beautifully told . . . .”

Historic Pittsburgh Tours is a new tour that will start in the summer of 2017 and run mid-day in downtown Pittsburgh. On its initial launch, the tour will run several days per week, with the goal of eventually operating every day of the week as soon as business permits.

• For the Ghost Tour: Applicants must be generally available Friday-Saturday from approximately 6:30 pm-9:30 pm (and during Halloween season, the ghost tours will run twice in the evening, depending on crowd volume, so applicants may be required to work until approximately 10:30 pm).

• For the Historic Tour: Applicants must be generally available mid-day for 2 hours. Since we intend to have more than one guide, we will be able to work with the tour guide’s schedule and be reasonably flexible.

• For both tours

o Applicants must be 18 years of age.

o Applicants must be able to stand and walk for the length of the tour (the route for the tours range from just under a mile to approximately one-and-a-half miles and the duration is generally about an hour and one-half) and speak clearly and in a loud enough voice to be heard by up to 40 people over the competing sounds of downtown bustle.

o Applicants should have a background in public speaking—acting, teaching, giving presentations at work, leading tours, etc.

o Applicants will be required to be present at the starting place of the tour one-half hour before the start of the tour in order to check in guests and respond to their inquiries. o Applicants must be able to learn by heart a sophisticated script.

o Applicants will need to engage throughout the tour and make sure guests understand it is their responsibility to follow the rules of the road in safely crossing the street.

o Applicants must be reliable—we do not have excess tour guides as “back-ups” to do tours, and the tour guide may be the only representative of the company present at the tour. If a tour guide is late, or fails to show up, that is a poor reflection on our company and is unacceptable to us.

If you are interested, please submit your resume and any references to: hauntedpittsburgh@rocketmail.com by January 9th.

If your qualifications meet our requirements, we will send you a short story, which you will be required to learn by heart. All applicants that meet our requirements will be interviewed at the William Penn Hotel on Saturday evening January 21, 2017 at 6 p.m.--at which time they will be asked to recite the story emailed to them as if they were leading the tour.

For more information about our company, see the section of our Haunted Pittsburgh website “WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT US” here. Pittsburgh Magazine recently said this about Haunted Pittsburgh: "This isn’t a tacky tourist trap or a collection of generic urban legends. This walking tour dives deep into Pittsburgh history to unearth forgotten tales, many starring some of the city’s most prominent citizens — and all featuring a good scare or two. Prepare to learn a few juicy Steel City secrets."

Pay to be discussed with qualified applicants.
